Sheldon Adelson Comps Veterans to Venetian High-Roller Treatment
Sheldon Adelson, owner of the Venetian Hotel and Casino, has found a way to make this Memorial Day resonate with happiness for some of the country's wounded veterans. In coordination with the Armed Forces Foundation, Adelson arranged for forty soldiers recuperating from war wounds at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Navy Medical Center to be flown on a private jet to Las Vegas, where they will receive high-roller treatment at the Venetian.
Soldiers were given penthouse rooms, and all expenses were comped by Adelson. One Marine who decided the trip would be a good time to wed his fiancee found himself immersed in the Venetian's wedding planners, giving him and his bride a dream wedding for free.
An Armed Forces Foundation spokesman said this trip was only the first of many, and that Adelson planned on giving similar vacations to all veterans who were admitted to either of the two hospitals.
Walter Reed and the Navy Medical Center are the hospitals where personnel with long-term recoveries from wounds are housed. Many are sent there with the most serious of injuries, requiring lengthy hospitalization, fitting of prosthetic devices, and other life-altering circumstances.
Adelson's gesture has to rank among the kindest and most generous, and demonstrates that billionaires can honor those who served, just as every citizen who takes a thoughtful moment does.
