Casino ATM Company Rushes to Correct Withdrawal Errors
A company that runs the ATMs located in many casinos across the US is trying to resolve a slew of complaints that the machines are deducting funds from accounts without paying out cash. According to a report by the Las Vegas Sun, as many as 40,000 patrons nationwide were charged for taking out money the ATMs never dispensed. The company, Global Cash Access Holdings, stated that glitches in the system caused machines operating between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. Friday night to mark debit transactions without honoring them. Casino customers using credit cards were unaffected by the problem.
Making things more complicated, not all ATM debit transactions were affected, leaving the company to sift through records to determine to whom it owes money, said Scott Dowty, Global's executive vice-president of business development.
Dowty told the Sun that about 40 percent of the mistakes had already been rectified, and the remainder should be ok within three to five business days.
"We at GCA are fully aware of the customer service issues this outage presents," a letter from CEO Scott Betts to customers says. "We have had our team working around the clock to ensure any and all issues on our system have been corrected and to rebuild the service level trust you expect."
Betts blamed the issue on a computer malfunction at Visa. He assured casino patrons that they could safely withdraw gambling cash without future concerns.
