PITG Gaming Acquires North Shore Land For New Casino
Fourteen years ago, Jonh Connelly, the owner of then- Gateway Clipper Fleet, had a vision of a casino on a twelve acre piece of land on North shore, but that vision never materialized.
Now, that piece of land, which was owned by Connelly's nephew, Terry Wirginis, has been sold to PITG Gaming and its owner, Don Barden.
The site had been targeted by connely for a casino when he bought it almost fourteen years ago for $26 million. That price was perceived as high for the land, but with the casino vision connely felt it was a good investment.
Barden will now try to make Connelly's vision a reality after he received the rights to the city's $50 million slot license last December.
Bob Oltmann, Barden's spokesman, had this to say about the finalization of the land, "Don Barden came to Pittsburgh looking for a site for gaming, and he liked this site and negotiated the rite for the land. He simply has exercised his option on that land."
