Beverly Hillbillies Casino May Be Headed for Nevada

A former member of the cast of the television show "The Beverly Hillbillies" wants to open a casino using the show as his theme.

A shuttered casino and hotel in Sparks, Nevada, may reopen as a new operation with a theme from the classic television show "The Beverly Hillbillies." Actor Max Baer Jr., who starred in the show, may purchase the casino and convert it.

The former Silver Club in Sparks is presently vacant, and the mayor of the town confirmed Baer has had meetings with city officials to express his interest in buying the place.

Baer has had designs for years to open Jethro's Beverly Hillbillies Casino, and use the characters from the 60s show to theme the place. He received approval to build a new casino thirty miles south of Reno, but is considering Sparks and other options because a retail complex by the new site has stalled in construction, a spokesman said.

Baer played Jethro on the show, nephew of Jed Clampett, scion of a Tennessee hill family that struck oil and brought their country stylings to the wealthy enclave of Beverly Hills. Hilarity ensued.

If Jethro's casino does eventually open, players can be sure to find the "cement ponds" to be enjoyable. Just hope to not have to visit Mr. Drysdale during a stay; that would mean making a trip to the bank.
