Birmingham Dog Track May Get Horse Racing and Bingo Machines

The added revenue from the machines would allow the track to once again support the high expenses that horse racing brings.

A Birmingham dog track has not had casino style gambling machines in over a year. Now the owner of that track has entered into negotiations with a rival in the area and come away with a joint venture business agreement.

Milton McGregor and Greenetrack, a dog track located in Eutaw, that has hundreds of Vegas style slots, have closed a deal that would bring bingo machines to Birmingham.

It has been tough on McGregor to bring machines to Birmingham because Greenetrack has been blocking the move. They feared that Birmingham slots would hurt their business.

Now, the two rivals have apparently come to an agreement that would allow the machines in Birmingham. In addition to the machines, McGregor would also consider bringing back horse racing to the track. The added revenue from the machines would allow the track to once again support the high expenses that horse racing brings.

Before any of this can actually happen, a constitutional amendment would have to be passed to allow the additional facility to house the gambling machines. Currently only Greenetrack and VictoryLand track in Shorter are allowed to have gambling machines.
