Small and Large Casinos Get OK in Britain, Super Turned Down

The plan still calls for eight small casinos and eight large casinos to receive licenses for casinos.

Britain is making progress in the world of casino gambling. They have decided that they are ready for a major expansion of casinos in Manchester. They are not, however, ready for a proposed super casino.

The Cultural Secretary, James Purnell, has revealed that he will give the green light to a plan that would allow for sixteen casinos to be built in Britain. The one thing that will not happen is the proposed super casino in Manchester.

The plan still calls for eight small casinos and eight large casinos to receive licenses for casinos. Purnell has already contacted the sixteen license winners to find out if they are ready to go forward with their casino plans. All of them have responded that they are still interested.

Gordon Brown, the new Prime Minister, has asked for a review of the Gambling Act. It was one of the first things he has done as prime minister. The Act passed in the Commons, but did not pass in the House of Lords.
