Shawn Chacon Latest Ballplayer to Default on Casino Markers
The district attorney representing Clark County, Nevada, has issued an arrest warrant for former major league pitcher Shawn Chacon for failing to pay his casino gambling debts. Caesars Palace officials filed a complaint charging Chacon took out $150,000 in gaming markers and never paid them.In order to avoid arrest, Chacon will need to pay the casino its money, plus pay a ten percent charge levied by Clark County for administrative costs on bad checks and unpaid gambling markers.
The complaint originates from a March visit by Chacon to Caesars, during which he took out three markers, each for $50,000.
Chacon has played at the major league level of professional baseball since 2001. He has pitched for the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and was an All-Star while pitching for the Colorado Rockies in 2003.
Chacon's last major league stop was Houston, where, while pitching for the Astros, he got into a heated argument with the team's general manager and choked him, then threw him to the ground. Chacon was promptly released, and attempted a comeback this year in the Oakland Athletics organization, pitching in the minors.
Former NBA star Charles Barkley was forced to make arrangements to settle a debt with the Wynn after defaulting on gambling loans, and NBA forward Antoine Walker was recently arrested for outstanding markers.

| From the headline, I understood that Chacon is one in a series of ballplayers with delinquent gambling debts. However, the article mentions nothing about the other players, and even your list of related stories features no reference to a broader trend. Perhaps the story included this information before editing, but as it stands in this online edition, the headline is quite misleading. | |
