Seminole Coconut Creek Casino Pays Record Jackpot

The jackpot was valued at $1,114,815 , the first time in Florida history a slot machine paid over the million-dollar mark.

A live-in nurse who works seven days a week decided to take some personal time and visit the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino, and her reward was hitting a progressive jackpot that set a Florida state record.

Paulette Mills, of Margate, Florida, visited the nearby casino Saturday night hoping to come out even or better, and did appreciably more than that. The jackpot was valued at $1,114,815 , the first time in Florida history a slot machine paid over the million-dollar mark.

Steve Bonner, general manager of the casino, noted that only recently had Florida law changed to allow the Seminoles to link machines between their seven casino locations, thus generating the big payout. He expects that, with the new linked progressives, bigger jackpots will happen frequently.

The jackpot was on a nickle slot machine; Mills was playing the maximum ($1.35) a spin to ensure maximum return.

Mills found out later her father had hit a $7000 payout the same day on the state lottery.

The nurse, who takes care of a Parkinson's patient, says she will be careful with her money, paying off debts and mortgages, and will continue to care for her patient, although perhaps on a curtailed schedule.

The Coconut Creek Casino is in the process of adding Class III slots, in which the gambler plays against the house, but Mills won on a Class II machine, which is bingo-based and puts the gambler against the other players.
