Black Hawk Casino Finds Loophole on Smoking Ban's First Days

"This is very premeditated and an act of defiance. Does this give a right of passage for other casinos to start smoking? we are very concerned that they've opened the floodgate for other casinos to start smoking," said Stephanie Steinberg,

Colorado decided, like many other states, that smoking indoors is becoming an act of the past. More and more states are adopting no smoking policies indoors in public places.

One casino in Colorado, however, has decided that they are above the law. Wild Card Saloon and Casino is still allowing patrons to smoke while in the casino. They have not gained many friends among non smoking advocates with their stance.

The loophole that the casino is using is a clause in the new laws. The clause is a "cigar bar" exception, which allows smokers to keep smoking under that classification.

Owner Ed Smith claims his casino sells more than $50,000 in tobacco products annually. That, he said, makes him exempt from the smoking laws. Others do not see things the same way.

"This is very premeditated and an act of defiance. Does this give a right of passage for other casinos to start smoking? we are very concerned that they've opened the floodgate for other casinos to start smoking," said Stephanie Steinberg, Chairwoman of Smoke-Free Gaming of Colorado.

I AM NOT A SMOKER, HOWEVER, I THINK YOU ARE TAKING AWAY THE RIGHTS OF SMOKERS WHO GO GAMBLING (WHICH IS TOTALLY AN ADULT PASTTIME). EVERYONE KNOWS MOST WHO GAMBLE ALSO SMOKE. THERE ARE NO CHILDREN THERE. I KNOW OF CASINOS WHO HAVE HAD NON-SMOKING ROOMS OR AREAS. NO ONE USES THEM!!! IF NON-SMOKERS ARE SO ADAMENT ABOUT HAVING NO SMOKING IN CASINOS, WHY DON'T THEY USE THE NON-SMOKING AREAS OF THE CASINOS???? IF THE WORKERS DON'T LIKE IT, WHY DON'T THEY GET A JOB IN A HOSPITAL OR SOMETHING.
I AGREE TO NON-SMOKING IN THE RESTAURANTS, BUT NOT IN AN ADULT INTERTAINMENT ARENA. ALSO, HOW CAN THE STATE LET THIS GO ON AND LOSE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN REVENUE EACH MONTH? I STILL GO TO BLACKHAWK TO GAMBLE AND SINCE THE SMOKING BAN, IT IS ALMOST A GHOST TOWN. THOSE WORKERS WHO COMPLAINED SO MUCH ABOUT THE SMOKING WILL PROBABLY END UP LOSING THEIR JOBS ANYWAY. AND THEY DESERVE IT!!
