Illinois Supreme Court Leaves Emerald Casino Out in The Cold
The Illinois Gaming Board received the backing of the state Supreme Court on Friday after the court denied Emerald Casino's request to review a lower court's ruling.
The Gaming Board revoked Emerald Casino's license back in 2005 after they found out that officials from Emerald lied to state investigators. The issue was Emerald selling shares to investors that were perceived to have ties to organized crime.
Emerald Casino ended up in the Supreme Court after an Illinois state Appellate Court upheld the decision of the Gaming Board. Emerald was hoping that the Supreme Court would review the lower court's ruling.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan had this to say, "The decision sends a clear signal that this license is, in fact, revoked and moves the state a significant step closer to being able to re-issue the license to suitable owners."
The state of Illinois has been operating with only nine of the ten allowed licenses currently, but today's ruling moves the state closer to issuing that tenth and final license.
