Foxwoods Casino Catches Fire
For the third time in less than a week, firefighters were called out to battle a blaze at a casino. This time it was the Foxwoods Casino and Resort in Connecticut that caught fire.
The alarm was raised as white smoke billowed from beneath the the roof of the Grand Cedars Hotel in an area just above the VIP lounge. The top three floors of the eight-story building were evacuated, and the responding emergency units were the equivalent of a seven-alarm fire.
The blaze seemed to be controlled rapidly, but, as a precaution, firemen evacuated the rest of the building and the adjacent Grand Cedars Casino, and tore parts of the roof open to be sure the fire was not still smoldering.No injuries were reported.
Just last week, a fire at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas caused the evacuation and closure of the resort. As ground equipment can only be effective to a height of roughly ten stories, the Foxwoods fire was much easier to battle than the one at the 27-story Monte Carlo.
Three days ago, a second casino had a fire incident; the Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino in Arizona was set afire by a faulty air-conditioner. The bingo hall where the fire began was evacuated, and the fire contained without damage to the main casino.
