Illinois Casinos Looking To ID For Help With Problem Gamblers
Many believe that not enough is being done for problem gamblers, that is one of the arguments from politicians looking to keep casino gambling out of their state.
Gambling opponents in Illinois may not have that argument at their disposal much longer because the state is looking to do something to help problem gamblers.
The Illinois Gaming Board is pondering the idea of mandatory identification for entry into the casinos in their state.
The idea is based on the fact that problem gamblers can currently sign themselves up for a program that can have them arrested for entering a casino.
The problem right now is that the state has no way to police who comes in and out of the casino. Currently the states casinos are required to ID anyone under thirty years old, but anyone over thirty who is on the list can enter without being detected.
The problem could be slowing down entry into the casinos, something the Board is currently considering before making their final laws. The idea has been tossed around since last year, and the Board is looking for input for a December 3rd meeting.
