Indianapolis State Senator Seeks Rare Casino Relocation
Casino expansion is running rampant around the United States. Politicians have moved towards using new casinos to solve economic deficiencies. One State Senator in Indianapolis has proposed a different solution. Casino relocation.
Robert Meeks, a State Senator from Indianapolis has created a Bill that would move one of two casinos from Lake Michigan to a lake in Northeastern Indiana's Steuben County.
The county has experienced some trouble financially. Meeks believes a casino could help solve that problem. The Bill could bring 800 jobs to a county that is in desperate need of financial stability.
The Senator has encouraged Steuben County officials to speak with the owner of two Majestic Star casinos in Gary about possibly moving one of them. Buck Lake ranch in Angola is a possible site for a casino.
The Bill is not high on the priority list currently and may be impossible to get passed during this Legislative session. Property taxes is the main issue at the meetings and is taking priority over the casino Bill.
The potential impact a casino in Steuben could have on the Blue Chip casino in Michigan City would also have to be determined before a decision could be made on the Bill.
