Iowa Trains Agents to Cheat at Casino Gambling
Cheaters are a scourge of casinos everywhere; now, in Iowa, the state government is training cheaters the best ways to cheat. Of course, the trainees are agents from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the purpose in their lessons is to allow them to catch cheaters.
After previously sending officers out of state to receive instruction on spotting illegal plays and scams, Iowa will now train its own personnel at its new Gaming Laboratory. A facility has been designed in Des Moines at which experts will demonstrate tricks used by grifters, including overpaying hands, false shuffles, sliding dice, and switching cards.
The state employs 120 agents, who work at the 17 Iowa casinos in conjunction and cooperation with casino security and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. The new lab allows them to learn about the skills involved in card and table games, as well as the latest tricks created by scam artists.
Slots are considered harder to cheat since the introduction of coinless machines. The main problem in the slot rooms is the use of counterfeit bills, but validators checking the bill are contained in most new slot machines, and intercept counterfeits.
Iowa DCI agents have been responsible for the prosecution of 25 cases of cheating over the last three years. Prison sentences have been issued, including a dealer caught cheating who was sentenced to five years.
The need for the new facility has been created by the expansion boom of casino gambling in Iowa. The DCI now has more agents monitoring gambling than investigating general crime.

| Anthony, what you say doesn't quite make sense. In an online poker game you are playing other real people. The house doesn't win anything if you lose. Why would they want you to lose? And how are they cheating, by making your opponent get a better hand than you? Maybe you just aren't that great of a poker player. Most of the time aces don't win because they are aces, they win because of how you bet with them. | |
