Almost A Third of Israeli Adolescence Have Gambling Problem
Gambling has become almost mainstream around the world. People are gambling in casinos in record numbers, and that has lead to betting occurring at an earlier age than in the past.
In Israel, a recent study has revealed that the adolescent population has become increasingly interested in gambling. Almost one third of the people surveyed revealed that they have gambled more than forty times in the past year.
The study was under the supervision of Professor Meir Teichman and Professor Giora Rahav. The results were not all that shocking when one considers the exposure that legalized gambling has been receiving around the world.
1,069 youths were surveyed in the study. The age range of the youths was 16-19. Twenty one percent of those surveyed revealed that they had gambled on sports. Nine percent admitted to gambling in a casino.
Of the over 1,000 adolescence surveyed, only five point five had been diagnosed as problem gamblers. That number seems a bit jaded when over twenty five percent claimed they gambled over forty times. that is almost once a week.
The majority of those surveyed said they had been influenced into gambling by the state lottery or the Israel Betting Council, Toto.
