Gambling Beginning in Kansas Before Casinos Are Even Built

The amount of gambling that is going on between developers to win the rights to the casino licenses is similar to what patrons will be doing once the casinos are open.

Developers have always had a way with battling each other for potential locations for their businesses. In Kansas, that battle is turning into gambling before any casino is even built in the state.

The Kansas Lottery has received the right to allow casino gambling in the state. The amount of gambling that is going on between developers to win the rights to the casino licenses is similar to what patrons will be doing once the casinos are open.

Over the past month deadlines have come and gone in several counties in Kansas to submit applications and proposals for casino projects. Over the next few weeks more counties will have their deadlines met. So far, many developers have thrown their ideas into the ring.

The first thing that developers must do if they want the state agreement is gather support locally. Then, the state Lottery will negotiate contracts with potential developers and send those contracts to the review board. Once there, the review board has two months to make a decision.

The state lottery will be the owner of the casinos. Private developers will build the casinos and run the day to day operations. Critics have said that they are weary that the state lottery would actually own the new casinos.
