Late Entry Into Casino Application Process in Kansas Causes Chaos

Epic claims they were ready with their proposal before the deadline, only to have the copying problems.

Kansas has had applications pouring in all over the state for a casino license. The process was to file in an individual county, and then to have the top choices move on to the next stage.

In Ford County, only two applicants had submitted their proposals as of the Wednesday deadline. A third group, however, is now trying to submit an application after that deadline.

Epic Gaming is asking the Kansas Lottery Commission to accept its application even though it was filed after the Wednesday deadline. The group is claiming that copy problems stopped them from getting the application in on time.

Members of the Commission have asked for more time to do research as to whether or not they are even within their jurisdiction to allow for the late entry. The commission was meeting today to discuss what should happen to the application.

The two groups that did get their application in on time were in strong opposition of allowing the third group in. Epic claims they were ready with their proposal before the deadline, only to have the copying problems. If allowed, they are proposing a $65 million casino Southeast of Dodge City.
