New Miss America Crowned at Las Vegas Casino

She is only nineteen years old and now looks forward to a year in which she will be called on to complete all the duties that come with her new crown.

It has become a right of passage to ring in the new year. On Saturday, the latest woman to be crowned Miss America took her place on the stage at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with her new crown.

Kirsten Haglund representing the state of Michigan is the new Miss America. She is only nineteen years old and now looks forward to a year in which she will be called on to complete all the duties that come with her new crown.

There were several moments in the competition that allowed for her to stand out from her competition. One of those moments was when she came out looking staggering in her bikini. The other show stopping moment was when she sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

The fact that she won the title shows just how far she has come. Just a few years back the new Miss America was battling with a debilitating illness. She was diagnosed with anorexia.

After recovering from the illness, she has vowed to make awareness part of her message during her tenure as Miss America. She also plans to do work with the Children's Miracle Network.
