Missouri Casino Workers Love Their Jobs
While labor unrest looms as a potential problem for the casino industry across the United States, one state finds its gaming workers to be unusually happy.
In a survey of employees of Missouri casinos, workers were found to be generally satified with their pay, working conditions, and lifestyle.
The Missouri Gaming Association conducted a study polling 3,326 workers from Missouri's twelve casinos, and found that most were happier to be in the gambling industry than they were elsewhere. 82% of those surveyed said they were more satisfied in their casino jobs than in previous employment; 34% were much more satisfied.
Some 58% stated they made more money at their casino jobs, and 84% said they considered being employed by the gambling industry to be a positive career move.
Benefits, pay, career opportunities, and work atmosphere were most frequently cited as reasons the respondents enjoyed the casino jobs.
Even as unions in California fight to organize workers in casinos, and unions in New Jersey force the loss of the Tropicana's license, it seems, in Missouri at least, workers prefer their treatment in casinos to most other jobs.
Missouri casinos employ over 12,000 people. A recent Harris poll found only 43%of U.S. workers overall are happy with their current jobs.
