Venetian Casino Tests Mobile Gambling Machines
Mobile gaming devices are coming to Las Vegas casinos, and soon gambling will be possible not only at the tables, but anywhere within the casino complex... or even further.
A new machine created by Cantor Gaming is currently being teasted for use by the Venetian casino, under the watchful eyes of state regulators. Cantor has constructed a mobile gambling unit, which can be carried in the palm of one's hand throughout the high-limit slot area.
The limits are artificial, built so as to keep verification of the unit's play specifically within the high-roller area. But that could be expanded to include the entire casino, the hotel complex, or more.
The game allows you to select your preferred form of gambling, and then plays against the real-money balance of your prepaid account. The unit will also offer helpful hints about suggested play and odds.
Play is continually monitored by casino employees, and all data stored in casino computers, ready to be reviewed whenever a discrepancy occurs.
The unit's performace will be discussed and studied by both regulators and casino management as the game is introduced on a larger scale to more casinos and expanded areas.
There are those who will hope this is not the death-knell of actual casinos, the way video coinless slots eclipsed the old spinning wheels. For some, the sounds and lights, the atmosphere and electricity are all part of the enjoyment of gambling. For others, privacy and discretion, along with the desire to stay off records as much as possible, would outweigh any convenience factor.
But in a world that prefers its phones also be cameras and stereos, well, why not casinos as well?
