Downtown Building May Be Future Site of Tribal Casino in Muskegon
Muskegon has casino gambling coming. In which form and where are questions that still need to be answered. Monday, an Indian Tribe will unveil plans and possibly give some insight to where that casino will be built.
The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians will send a delegate to Monday's meeting of the Muskegon City Commission. At that meeting, the tribe's representative will give the plans for a casino that could be built downtown.
The plan allegedly calls for the casino to be built at the former building of SPX headquarters in the Terrace Point development. The tribe must get approval from the state and Federally for the casino. That process usually takes up to a year. There have been indications that the tribe has a way to quicken the process.
Other tribes are also looking in Muskegon as a potential site for a new casino. The Little river Band of Ottawa Indians have expressed interest in bringing a casino to the area. They already run a casino in Manistee.
Whatever group gives their proposals, the Commission would still have to vote for one of the proposals to be approved.
