Former NBA Star Broke After Losing Millions Gambling
According to nationwide media reports, Charles Barkley still has not settled his gambling debt with Las Vegas casino, Wynn Resorts. A Nevada prosecutor says Charles Barkley owes the casino $400,000, money he lost while playing high-stakes card games and sports betting.
The story first broke last week as news flooded the air-waves of Charles Barkley owing money to a casino. It quieted down after Sir Charles himself came out publicly promising to pay the money immediately.
Officials with the Wynn Las Vegas resort and the Clark County district attorney's office say there's been no payment and no contact with the former NBA star and TV analyst.
Some have speculated Charles Barkley is on the brink of bankruptcy, something the former Phoenix Sun denies. If he wasn't broke, then not paying in a timely manner sure helps present the appearance of a possible financial crisis brewing in his private life.
Barkley once estimated to ESPN back in 2006 that he believes he spent at least $50 million dollars of his estate in gambling losses.
The Wynn Las Vegas resort alleges in a civil complaint filed May 14 in Nevada state court that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, received last Oct. 18 and 19.
Las Vegas District Attorney David Roger has promised to file a criminal complaint if Barkley doesn't pay up by June 9.
