Bailout for Pornography Could Trickle Down to Casino Gambling
Most big businesses are feeling the economic pinch, and, after seeing the bailouts arranged by the US government for the financial and auto industries, pornography and gambling want in. TMZ reported this week that porn producers Joe Francis and Larry Flynt are talking about asking Congress for an aid package for the sex industry. The two contend that pornography is another major American industry whose sales have fallen with the onset of the recession, and as such deserve equal consideration for Congressional help. Francis, who produces the Girls Gone Wild videos, said, "Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses; we feel we deserve the same consideration."
Flynt, the owner of the Hustler brand, added, "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."
Gambling operators have speculated about a potential package from the government to save them from financial woes. The casino industry is the largest part of the Nevada economy, and vital to many other states as well, providing jobs for hundreds of thousands and revenue for state and local governments.
While neither industry is likely to receive serious attention from Congress, it could be seen that a bailout for pornography would help casinos as well. More money in Joe Francis' pocket might result in a boost in casino take, as Francis is noted for losing two million dollars in markers to Wynn Resorts.
Further, more money in the porn business means bigger and better porn award shows, held in Las Vegas casino convention halls. A package to aid the porn kings may truly be a stimulus package, in so many ways. And once the money comes to Vegas through Francis and industry gatherings, the sex industry will get a jolt in return.
After all, Steve Wynn will have to hire more hookers to distract Francis from how much he's losing. And money lost at the tables and spent on rooms and such by porn stars will circulate, going back out to lucky gamblers, who will in turn return some of it to the very same porn stars, in the privacy of patron rooms.
Congress should note the rapid movement a dollar placed into porn makes through the economy, and realize that, as long as it's gambling on economic recovery, it might find the best way to bring a quick rise to the economy would be an investment in porn. Hell, it might even cause an economic eruption.
