Pro Baseball Players Gather for Poker Tournament
Professional athletes by nature are avid competitors, and new Philadelphia Philly outfielder Geoff Jenkins is no exception. In order to appease the competitive spirit within him and some fellow ball players, as well as benefit children near his Phoenix residence, Jenkins has set up an All-Star Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament.
The Jack Rabbit Supper Club and Lounge in Scottsdale, Arizona, will host the field of approximately sixty players tonight. Jenkins organized the event, and invited the players. He hopes to see the tournament become a yearly event.
All proceeds will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Phoenix. Jenkins hopes to raise between $50,000 and $60,000 for the charity. Although no winnings will be distributed among players, there will be door prizes awarded, and bragging rights will be fiercely contested.
Among the participants will be baseball players Grady Sizemore, J. J. Hardy, Jermaine Dye, Eric Chavez, Chris Young, Connor Jackson, Doug Davis, Jacque Jones, Paul Konerko, Justin Morneau, and Bill Hall. NFL players Javon Walker and Larry Fitzgerald are also committed to the event.
Jenkins claims to be an excellent player, but admits the cards can fall in funny ways, and he wouldn't guarantee a victory. He stated that, as long as everyone has a good time and money is raised for the children, he'll be happy with the result.
