Pennsylvania Man Wins Largest Jackpot in Resorts Slots History

The progressive jackpot was the largest in Resorts Casino history.

A retired steelworker from Pensylvania found it advantageous to play at the slots in Atlantic City until the bus was ready to leave, as he hit a $4.2 million jackpot minutes before he was due to leave.

Robert Schaeffer had accompanied his friends Doris Weinman and Leah Harris to Resorts Hotel and Casino Atlantic City for a day trip. With most of their money spent, the trio decided to spin a few last dollars in a Megabucks slot machine while waiting for the bus home.

First each of the ladies tried their luck. Then Schaeffer took his turn, and spun the maximum 60 nickels, or $3, into the machine. Five eagles came up, and the machine spoke out loud, telling the lucky gambler to call for an attendant.

The progressive jackpot was the largest in Resorts Casino history.

The 83-year-old Schaeffer says he plans to use the money to set up trust funds for his five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Perhaps some of the daytrippers who have been abandoning Atlantic City for Pensylvania slot parlors will be reminded by this story that the biggest payoffs still remain near the Boardwalk, and a bus ride is not so long when jackpots this size wait to be claimed.
