St. Louis Casino Closed by Floodwaters
Another riverboat casino has been temporarily closed due to rising waters on the Mississippi River. The President Casino, located in St. Louis, has been shut by management until river conditions improve.
Pinnacle Entertainment, the owners of the President, released a statement saying there was no set time frame for reopening the casino. Floods have beset the St. Louis area, with heavy rains falling earlier in the week, and more rain expected over the next few days.
Parking and access areas for the riverboat have been covered by the floodwaters, and employees will have to clear the grounds of mud and debris before the public will be able to return to the casino.
The Isle of Capri riverboat at Natchez, Mississippi was also closed by flood threats this week.
Pinnacle said it would continue to keep Lumiere Place, its land-based downtown St. Louis casino, open at this time, despite flooding in the area.
Pinnacle acquired the President in December 2006 for $46 million. The casino has operated for six years, and never had a shut down like this before.
