Union Affiliation Led To Firing, According To Casino Workers
Workers unions are starting to pop up everywhere for casino employees. For years, the employees would just have to work under whatever conditions and rules the casino set forth.
Now dealers and other casino workers have been moving more and more towards joining unions. One such affiliation caused two people to lose their jobs, according to the fired parties.
Two employees lost their jobs this week from a San Roque casino when they received letters detailing their violations and termination. The letter claimed they were fired for illegally smoking in the casino.
The fired employees claim, however, that management told them they would be able to smoke after midnight on New Year's eve. They also claim that managers were among the first people to light cigarettes that night. The managers were not fired.
Many staff members held a sit down protest out front of the casino on Wednesday. They feel their fellow employees were unjustly fired. One of the fired men had worked for the casino for almost ten years.
Both fired employees feel they were let go because they were both part of a union that has been pressuring the casino to improve working conditions.
