Seattle Mayor's Son Sentenced For Role in Casino Scam
Seattle mayor Greg Nickels sat patiently and watched on Friday as his son was sentenced to jail. The younger Nickels had plead out to authorities in August on a charge of conspiracy.
Jacob Nickels was a pit boss at Whatcom Tribal Casino back in 2005. He got involved with the scam when he was approached and offered money to hook one of the conspirators up with dealers.
Nickels received $5,000 for hooking up the conspirator and the dealer. Twenty four others were also charged in the case. The basis of the scam was dealers would deal pre-recorded cards that were unshuffled. The games affected were mini-Baccarat and Blackjack.
Nickels attorney was trying to avoid jail time for his client by stating he has not had any prior criminal record. In the end though, Nickels received three months jail time. He also will have three months house confinement after his time in jail. $90,510 was also ordered to be paid in restitution and 100 hours of community service was ordered.
"This has been a very difficult time for our family, and today's decision will help bring this issue to a close," the Mayor said in a statement.
