Nevada Casino Chooses Smokeless Atmosphere
The proper working of the free market system and Libertarianism is on display in Nevada, as one casino operator has decided to cater to a non-smoking clientele. The owners of the Fernley Nugget, a little ways outside Reno, have voluntarily turned their casino floor into a smoke-free zone, while smoking continues throughout Nevada casinos.
While many non-smokers seek to force their lifestyle choice on others, the Nugget represents good business without government interference. The casino's owners also own several other casinos throughout Nevada, and heard the requests by patrons about the need for a smokeless casino.
Scott Tate, general manager for the Nugget, said, "Just by providing a smoke-free environment, I think it will make it inviting to those people who do not smoke cigarettes."
Nevada voters eliminated smoking at most restaurants and bars in 2006, but the ban does not apply to casino floors.
Online Casino Advisory's gaming analyst, Sherman Bradley, commented, "It is admirable that the Nugget is allowed to make its own choice on how it conducts business and what clientele it targets. Rather than law forcing such a decision, the operators simply saw an unsatisfied segment of the market and moved to please that group."
