Station Casinos Look to Expand to Reno
Station Casinos plan to bring their signature style to Reno. Station executives already have plans for two locations in Reno, one neighboring the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, the other on an 88 acre site on the outskirts of town.
Station Casinos try to emphasize value for money spent by its mid-level clientele. Good food, relaxing and exciting gaming, and attractive amenities are offered at prices well below what Strip resorts charge.
The site near the convention center would contain 500 rooms, a state-of-the-art sports book, and a multitude of restaurant offerings. The other location is planned to have eventually 600 rooms, a half-million square feet of gaming and dining areas, and be adjacent to a 150,000 square foot Bass Pro Shop, for outdoor enthusiasts.
Palace Station was founded in 1976 by Frank Fertitta, an ex-dealer who wanted to create a place comfortable for casino workers and other locals. Relying on word-of-mouth to advertise, the concept caught on so well that Station Casinos now owns 17 properties in Nevada.
The company opened Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa last year in Las Vegas on a location miles from the Strip. Designed as an alternative stop for those who want nice surroundings without having to pay a fortune, Red Rock has captured significant attention. Guests who stayed there informed Casino Gambling Web that they found the rooms to be every bit as nice as Wynn's, but at a much more reasonable rate.
Scott Nielson, chief development officer for Station Casinos, said the timeline for this expansion has not been determined, but that his company is definitely coming to Reno; it is just a question of when.
