SugarHouse Casino To Receive Permits After Court Ruling

Neither has been able to start their building, however, because the city of Philadelphia had been slow to act on giving the groups the necessary permits.

The city of Philadelphia has been extremely slow to act on the necessary permits for HSP Gaming LP to start building their SugarHouse Casino.

HSP had patience through most of this year, but that patience quickly dissolved last month. A lawsuit was filed in the Supreme Court that asked that the city issue the necessary permits.

The ruling came down from the court on Monday, and the project is expected to begin within the next few weeks.

What was once Jack Frost sugar refinery will now be a $550 million slot machine casino. The casino is to be located on Delaware Avenue. It will be one of two casinos in the city.

The other casino, Foxwoods, is having the same difficulty as HSP. Their plan is to build a $560 million casino on sixteen acres of land.

HSP was awarded their casino license last December. Foxwoods won the other license. Neither has been able to start their building, however, because the city of Philadelphia had been slow to act on giving the groups the necessary permits.
