SunCruz Casinos Adds Problem Gambling Consultants to Payroll

A line of ships operating ax short-term casinos upped its investment against problem gambling by hiring noted experts on compulsive gambling to help train employees.

SunCruz Casinos, while noting its format is unappealing to compulsive gamblers, still took the step of hiring two experts on problem gambling to help train casino personnel. Sheila and Arnie Wexler will assist in educating casino employees in identifying and handling problem gamblers.

The couple come with a long resume of achievements and experience in the study and treatment of problem gambling. Arnie Wexler is the former Executive Director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling in New Jersey.

Both are certified as trained counselors in the field of compulsive gambling, and Sheila Wexler is also recognized as a counselor for drug and alcohol abuse. They have been or are associated with Trump Entertainment casinos, Harrah's properties, and the US Army.

Suncruz officials released a statement saying the line of cruise vessels is committed to "the highest ethical standards in casino operations." The company's ships routinely take short three-to-four hour voyages, allowing gambling past the legal sea boundary for a couple hours before returning to port.

The star-crossed casino operating company is known for the gangland-style execution of its founder after a dispute over the sale to a group including convicted felon and disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
