Super Bowl Teams Good Omen for Stock Market Gambling

Still, just like at casinos or on online gambling sites, stock players are a superstitious lot.

The two teams in this year's Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals, are both winners in the eyes of those gambling on mystic signs regarding the stock market. Both teams are from the pre-merger National Football League, and when a team that was around in that era wins the Super Bowl, the trend is for stock values to soar.

According to a report by the Arizona Republic, in thirty-three of forty-two years with Super Bowls, the investment markets have followed a distinct trend. When teams from the old American Football League or expansion teams win the Super Bowl, stocks head south.

But when teams from the historic NFL win, stocks are set to rise. Since both teams are from the ancient days of the NFL, it doesn't matter to market watchers which wins. Either way, the Super Bowl augurs a turnaround for stock investments.

Stock years with market growth tend to outnumber bad years by two to one, and old NFL teams are more numerous. And, with prices at rock bottom, only a slew of bankruptcies can prevent positive movement in this year's market.

Still, just like at casinos or on online gambling sites, stock players are a superstitious lot, and knowing the Super Bowl is indicating it's time to buy will help restore a little confidence. Just don't cross the paths of any black cats or walk under ladders today.
