Contract Talks Begin Between Auto Workers and Tropicana Casino
Dealers just want their fair share of the money that is being generated from casinos in Atlantic City. Many have decided to join a union to try and get fair pay and benefits.
The Auto Workers Union is representing these dealers, and so far, has been unsuccessful in negotiating a deal with Caesars. The talks have been going on for nine months.
On Tuesday, it was time to sit down and negotiate with the Tropicana Casino and Resort. The union has won representation to four Atlantic City casinos. In addition to Caesars and Tropicana, they also represent dealers from Bally's and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.
None of the four casinos have settled with the union. There is ongoing talks, however, and the hope is an agreement could be reached sometime in the near future.
The union has lost elections at several casinos, but still has hopes of uniting workers at all of Atlantic City's eleven casinos. Health care coverage, job security, salary increases, and an increase in full time jobs have been the major issues the union has been addressing.
