World Series of Poker Main Event Reaches November Nine
The final table for the World Series of Poker's Main Event has been reached. Minutes ago, Darvin Moon caught Jordan Smith all-in with pocket Aces, but Moon had flopped a third eight to match his pocket pair and propel him to another takedown of a huge pot and finish the field for the November Nine in the Texas Hol'em championship. Of the remaining players, only Phil Ivey has ever won a bracelet in WSOP action before. Ivey holds seven titles; Smith had taken Event 36 in this year's series, but couldn't quite last until one more man preceded him out.
Moon had almost doubled up to take a pot of 40,000,000 in a showdown against Billy Kopp. After a little cat-and-mouse, with each man trying to pull the other in, Kopp went all-in only to find that the diamond flush he had flopped wasn't as good as the one Moon had flopped, with Kopp holding the five and three to Moon's queen-jack.
Smith took an award of $896,730 for tenth; all the players at the final table are guaranteed at least a million dollars, with first place getting $8,546,435 this year.
Moon's two giant hands gave him just shy of 60 million chips, almost double second place.
The complete final nine, in order of chip stack, are; Darvin Moon, Eric Buchman, Steven Begleiter, Jeff Shulman, Joe Cada, Kevin Schaffel, Phil Ivey, Antoine Saout, and James Akenhead.
