Wynn Resorts Makes Case to Acquire Philly Foxwoods Casino Project
Steve Wynn appeared before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in an attempt to persuade the regulators to cede control of the troubled Foxwoods casino project to him. The Foxwoods casino, slated to operate in south Philadelphia, has fallen behind state-mandated deadlines for construction and the commencement of operations.Wynn told the panel that his company, Wynn Resorts, would complete the casino's construction as fast as inspections and ordinances would allow. Despite appearing without blueprints or written plans, Wynn said he was prepared to quickly erect a top-notch casino featuring 3000 slot machines and other gaming, as well as several restaurants and entertainment facilities.
Wynn had told gaming analysts in a conference call the previous week that he wanted the Philadelphia location to build "the cutest casino you’ve ever seen.”
Wynn was repeatedly interrupted by protesters who want the casino plan stopped. Some criticized Wynn for mentioning he would include a Vietnamese restaurant to accommodate the nearby Asian community, saying that casinos prey on ethnic groups with gambling traditions.
Even though Wynn was clearly the star of the hearing, members of the board said the purpose of the gathering was to determine what penalties should be levied against the Foxwoods site for its failure to act in a timely fashion. The board may even go so far as to consider revoking the license for the casino, a prospect which would likely disrupt Wynn's plans but satisfy neighborhood residents who have opposed the project from the start.

| Why is everyone fighting about opening a casino or to legalize gambling? With the economy in the toilet and everyone losing jobs and taxes going up to cover all the loses... why not let a few casino's go in to help take the burden off the tax payers backs? With the Indian Reservations casino's opening up all over the country and not PAYING TAXES... it all falls on the middle class people, Again.. to Pay. Right now people are going to casino's for enjoyment. That will Never stop. On the reservations, there is no one watching what their doing, they make their own rules. The people suffer, once again. At least if we took it on ourselves, we can watch and make sure everyone gets their fare share. LET THE CASINO'S IN!! AND HELP THE PEOPLE STOP PAYING. | |
