Beshear Uses Children as Excuse for Kentucky Online Gambling Case

Beshear has attacked online gambling ventures as "leeches on the community," and insisted on protection for the state's "signature industry."

The late, great comedian George Carlin once said there was an automatic giveaway when politicians are lying. Carlin said, "When they mention protecting the children, you know they are lying."

After yesterday's horrendous decision in the Kentucky case regarding seizure of Internet casino domain names, Governor Steve Beshear stated, "No one has been willing to step up and do anything about illegal Internet gambling until now. We must protect our people, especially our children, from this illegal and unregulated activity while also protecting our legal and regulated forms of gaming in Kentucky."

So, as Carlin told us politicians are wont to do, Beshear used the excuse of protecting children for pursuing an order that violates most of the standards, liberties, and laws upon which the United States is built.

After all, once people think it might save children, the emotional, knee-jerk response is to give approval. It takes a concerted effort to stop marching in step and question a decision that saves kids!

But Beshear has as much as admitted his case is not about guarding the citizenry, but about collecting revenue. Beshear has attacked online gambling ventures as "leeches on the community," and insisted on protection for the state's "signature industry."

Ed Leyden, president of the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association and a highly respected attorney, told Online Casino Advisory, "This is a tax case, pure and simple."

Gambling is alright with Beshear if the sites pay a fee. Like a mob protection racket, the state of Kentucky will allow all the gambling desired, in all forms available, as long as it gets a taste. Otherwise, a fire might burn down the business, or the domain name might be seized to protect the children.

Beshear seems blind to the shocking precedent he is setting, which may make a case for any government to shut down worldwide businesses that displease it. He doesn't mind hardening the cases of Antigua and the European Union regarding U.S. protectionism, specifically toward horse racing, which Beshear allows to continue online.

The real truth here is that the most dangerous place to be is between a politician and money he might misspend.

In response to the "Protect our children" statement that the questionable Gov of Ky made in reference to internet gambling. Carlin was very correct, but, he should have added this, If Gov Beshears mouth is moving he is lying. Protect our children? Why would we want someone with questionable ethics, and unable to tell the truth, to protect our children? Why would we let a person who allows children to starve in his own state, "protect our children" When a guy will take the states money and throw it away on unjust law suites, while the jobless rate raises, industry leaves, AND, the best one, releases prisoners from jail early to save money, only to have them return because they committed even worse crimes, well my friends, do want this guy to protect our children????? Yes this so called Gov allows online betting to go on with the Churchill Downs Race Way, however, It is only the important races that we here in Ky are allowed to bet on. It is not across the board every race that goes on there. The Horsemens Union decided they were not getting enough of the pie, so they have denied Churchill Downs the right to accept online bets on most, and let me repeat MOST of the races that go on each day during the meets. Matter of fact, this last Ky Derby Day, we had only 2 races the whole day we could bet online. The Gov stood by and let this happen, however, he will also say he is protecting Churchill Downs? Come on!!!!!! Churchill is also his biggest rival, after the conservatives, in his push to get land casinos here in KY. So,,,,Mr. Gov, your mouth is moving, and what you want us to believe is,,,,you are protecting our children, and you are saving Churchill Downs, the people who stood against you in your push for legal casinos in Ky, and, the ones that took money out of their own pockets when they would not give more to the Horsemens Assc? You want us to believe you????? Uum, Mr Gov for the record,,please please, dont feel you ever have to protect me, ok, I dont want or need protection like this,,,God just grant us the safe journey through your term.....God willing you wont be back........Wise up Kentucky, Wise Up Americans,,,,this is just a beginning,,,this guy has no one investigating him, he has free rein, and now has a Judge siding with him....

Let me tell you another story,,,that most here in Ky tried to sweep under the rug......We had a beautiful 4 year old child who was here with his ILLEGAL Parents, whom were separated. This little boys spoke NO english, and his mother very little herself. The mother apparently was living with a boyfriend, in child preditor populated area. Seems we have certain areas in our state where the preditors live? This beautiful little boy was allowed to roam the neighborhood alone very often. Keep in mind he spoke no english. On this one certain day, the boy was once again out alone, while mommy was at home with the boyfriend, and on this day the little boy did not make it back home. They found his little body in a garbage dumpster days later. This story rocked the whole Ky State. Apparently one of the preditors had taken him, and in the end killed him. If this was not bad enough, the mother was not charged with any crime! Instead, the city, arranged for the mother, and boyfriend, to take the childs body home to their country for burial, and after that, arranged for the mother and party to come back. The city also sent a representative with the mother, easing her re-entry to the US. The city stating that the mother was needed for the trial of the person who killed the boy. I suspect since the mother was an illegal, and poor, that the city also paid for this trip, and the representative. The best part is, the mother has an outstanding warrant against her from CA, based on her illegal status in the US. Do you think the city turned her over,,,NO, Now I ask you, what kind of evidence could this mother have to add to the case, if while her son was being abducted, she was laid up in the house with the boyfriend? Does anyone believe she should have been charged with child neglect? Should she have been charged for maybe murder? Nope not in KY, she is paid to go home and come back, and can live here,,,,she can file for emergency citizenship, all this with a criminal record in the state of California! Believe it, it is true...Sadly the state of Ky is mostly made up of very good, kind, hard working people, ones who will see your child as their own, ones who will run to the aid of their neighbors, and even to the aid of strangers, but, we have people in offices of leadership that are oh so good at putting on at election time, and then turning a deaf ear on the promises they made.
