Leonardo DiCaprio Making Online Casino Movie
Hollywood is turning its attention to the world of online casino gambling, and the spotlight figures to be bright with famed actor Leonardo DiCaprio set to star in the upcoming movie. A script from the writers of "Rounders" will delve into the Internet gambling industry in Costa Rica. The plot line so far has been kept secret, but members of the online casino industry are guardedly optimistic. Writers Brian Koppleman and David Levien have shown a deft touch and keen understanding of gambling in "Rounders."
The iconic poker movie portrayed the poker world fairly realistically, showing both the good side of the game and the rough underbelly. Certainly, at the end of the movie, viewers were more inclined to want to play poker than to outlaw it, an important distinction for an industry needing good mainstream press.
The writing team also handled the script for "Ocean's Thirteen," which featured action once again around a Las Vegas casino. So far, the two have not slammed gambling in their scripts, and Internet casino operators hope the pattern continues.
No shooting date has been set, and, with the length of time necessary to make a movie and get it into theaters, there is a good chance the conditions in the US for online casinos may be significantly different by the time the movie premiers.
