Online Casino Rumored to Have Major Security Breech
Ladbrokes, the UK bookmaker and online casino operator, is facing rumors that its records of patrons' personal details may be compromised. According to The Mail Online, a source provided the information belonging to 10,000 Ladbrokes customers, and offered complete access to Ladbrokes' 4.5 million registered online gambling players for a price.
The newspaper immediately contacted the Internet gaming company to alert them of the breech, and notified British cyber authorities. The sample information provided had physical and e-mail addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, and gave customers' account numbers and gaming histories.
The source who contacted the paper claimed to represent an Australian IT company, DSS Enterprises, operated by Dinitha Subasinghe. Ladbrokes was a client of DSS in 2007 and 2008.
'I have no access to any Ladbrokes database or any other information," stated Subasinghe in denying any connection to the sale of the stolen casino info. “Unless my name, my signature, my fingerprint is on anything, it has nothing to do with me."
'This is a criminal act and we are working with the police, the Information Commisioner's Office and the newspaper to identify and apprehend the culprit," said Ciaran O'Brien of Ladbrokes. 'Importantly, we do not believe that customer accounts or banking data can be accessed.'
