Online Casino Operators Accused of Selling Player Info
An Australian gambling website has accused several of the top online casino and gaming operators of auctioning off the personal details provided by patrons in order to become site members. According to Nick Haslem of AustralianGambling.com, he and other undercover site representatives were able to buy personal player data from the companies.
Among the operators alleged to have taken money to supply player information are Ladbrokes, 888, William Hill, Betfair,Totesport, and Coral. Haslem says that the data released includes full names and addresses, date of birth, phone number, e-mail addresses, and sensitive financial data included size of deposits.
Haslem says that once he exposed himself as a journalist, the online gambling sites involved refused to comment.
The report was begun when Haslem became aware of a data dealer named Ryan Clegg, who buys the info from a gamimng industry insider, Frank Best. Clegg told Haslem that info is for sale at such online casinos as “Casino Tropez, Eurogrand, Casinojoy, 888, Intercasino, Spin Palace, 32 red, William Hill, Europa Casino, Vegas Red, PlatinumPlay, Roxy Palace."
Also included were online sports betting services, such as Betfair, Ladbrokes, Betfair and William Hill.
The inappropriate release of personal online gambling data can result in fraud and spam, as well as putting individuals at risk as far as problem gambling and its exploitation.
