Online Casino Increases Internet Security Checking
Many opponents of online gambling point to lax measures at Internet casinos guarding against money laundering, underage participation, and problem gambling. Online casino operator 888.com says it understands the concerns, and is adding new security procedures to prevent such occurrences. The Internet gaming site will employ the British online security firm 192Business to help verify identifications and ensure compliance with safety protocols. The verification firm will act at the sign-up stage when new accounts are created, denying access not only to money memberships but also free gaming areas, preventing children from inappropriate exposure.
The protective systems from 192 Business are already used by PartyGaming and PKR.com, among other European Internet gambling sites.
“Player verification enables us to go into new markets safely and responsibly. It... maintains our commitment to being a socially responsible operator by preventing underage players accessing our gaming sites," says Ruth Tanami, 888.com's director of responsible gambling.
When asked if the increased security and regulatory compliance presaged a potential attempt to enter the US market if and when laws change, Eran Gonen, vice-president of 888.com, said only that the verification process was an important step for the company's expansion into new markets.
