Online Casinos Changing Software to Facilitate US Return?
Doyle's Room, a popular online poker site, is changing software providers so that the Internet gambling site can once again accept US players, leading to speculation that other online casinos may consider following suit. According to a report by Poker News Daily, Doyle's Room advised members by e-mail that big changes would be happening in the near future.Doyle's Room is currently powered by Microgaming, a major software provider for online gambling sites. However, Microgaming decided in November to withdraw from the US market, forcing Doyle's Room to abandon attempts to recruit US players.
The move to a US-friendly software company is a bold one for the poker site, and may inspire other Internet casinos to do the same. The US market is considered by far the largest and most profitable, but many companies have stopped welcoming new US players after the passing of the UIGEA.
Microgaming at first continued to operate in the US despite the federal law against online casino payment transactions, but withdrew after being prominently named in the Kentucky forfeiture case involving 141 Internet gambling site domain names.
Doyle's Room is reportedly prepared to switch to the Cake Poker Network, which does accept most US players, although it has decided to block participation in Kentucky.
The decision by Doyle's Room comes on the heels of the announcement that Playboy Casino will close next week. Playboy, like Doyle's branded by a name with specific US appeal, found itself unable to sustain operations after its software provider, Cryptologic, left the US market.
