UltimateBet Online Casino Signs Poker Pros as Cheating Reaction

And the distraction of signing two pros does not compensate for the loss of credibility the Tokwiro online casinos have suffered.

UltimateBet has acted quickly in response to the cheating scandal revealed to have occurred at its online poker rooms, signing two well-known professionals as representatives of the company. Eric Lynch and Cliff Josephy inked separate deals to associate themselves with the online casino.

It came to light earlier this week that some players at UltimateBet were taking advantage of software that allowed them to view opponents' cards. Tokwiro Enterprises, the owner of UltimateBet, claimed the cheaters were employees from the previous ownership, and promised to refund bets lost in compromised games.

Tokwiro is owned by the Kahnawake tribe outside Montreal. The company has already been slammed with a similar scandal uncovered at AbsolutePoker earlier in the year; the cheating then was also blamed on employees inherited when the casino was acquired.

Tokwiro has assurred customers that the software loophole has been repaired, and that new, stricter and more vigorous safety measures have been installed. The signing of Lynch and Josephy is clearly an attempt to garner some positive public relations.

Both pros were put on the defensive about agreeing to represent UltimateBet. They each stated that much research into the fairness and commitment to honest play had been made before deciding to partner with the shamed casino.

Still, much of what has been said by UltimateBet and Tokwiro relies on the gambling public taking them at their word. There has been no sign of prosecution of any guilty parties. Any changes that have been made in the system are known only to the operators. And the distraction of signing two pros does not compensate for the loss of credibility the Tokwiro online casinos have suffered.

Only a high level of transparency, both in investigating the past cheating and in revealing measures taken to safegaurd future players, can allow Tokwiro operations to reclaim any public trust.
