Online Casinos Handling Growing US Soccer Action

The recent toppling of top-ranked Spain by the US in soccer has led to increased soccer action at online casinos.

Nothing draws US sports fans faster than winning, and the recent surge in the level of play by the US soccer team has led to rising gambling action at online casinos. Sports books are showing the US defeat of Spain and courageous play against Brazil have brought a new wave of players to online casino soccer betting.

Wagering on soccer is already by far the biggest event for Internet sports books. The action on the World Cup dwarfs anything placed on the Super Bowl, the US champion of sports betting. But it is only recently that US gamblers are finding soccer an attraction at online casinos.

The US-Mexico match Wednesday in Mexico City has been expected to be a huge event for Mexico, but its surprising relevance to US sporting players has led some observers to wonder if the US is finally catching soccer fever.

Online gambling sites have the Mexican team rating as a favorite, more likely to win than either a draw or US win. A bet on Mexico means laying just more than even money, at -115. The US to win pays +235, while a draw would pay +225.

The Mexican team needs a win desperately, as the team trails the US, Costa Rica and Honduras in World Cup qualifying in its group, with only three teams to advance to the global tournament. But the US would love to cement its reputation as a rising power by winning on Mexico's home turf in front of 100,000 screaming opponents.

Beating Spain, the world's top-ranked team, and almost edging Brazil, the sport's most storied team, in the Confederations Cup in June may have awoken US sports fans to the world's sport; it certainly has prompted them to bet their team at online casinos.

Soccer has practically taken over my entire sports life. After a lifetime of football and baseball, I barely watch anything but soccer anymore. Several of my friends have become the same way.

We're not even doing our NFL pool this year. It was a tradition for me and my crew since the early 90's. If somebody had told me then that I would eventually be more of a soccer fan than football fan, I'd have laughed in their face. Strange how times change.
