Hockey Legend to Play Cards For Online Poker Site
International hockey star Mats Sundin has made a decision. Not a decision about where (or whether) to play in the National Hockey League after thirteen years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but a decision to represent PokerStars.
The online poker site announced that Sundin will act as a spokesman for the company, and play at their Internet site under the name "MatsSundin", as well as participating in live tournaments, including the Eurpean Poker Tour.
Sundin said the "fighting spirit" he developed in hockey will serve him well at the poker table, and he plans to donate his winnings to charity.
Sundin is considering offers from at least four teams in the NHL, including the Leafs. He ruled out retiring, or following other European stars like Jaromir Jagr to European leagues.
Sundin is both the second-longest serving team captain in the NHL, behind Joe Sakic of Clorado, and the second-longest serving non-North American captain in NHL history. He has scored at least seventy points in every season except his first and a strike-shortened season, and led the Leafs in points every year he played for them except 2002.
