Swedish Online Casino Monopoly Saluted for Responsible Gaming
Svenska Spel, the Internet gaming operator owned by the Swedish government, received an award from the European Lotteries and Toto Association for being the first gambling company to meet its responsible gaming standards. Svenska Spel runs all online gambling in Sweden as a state-licensed monopoly.
The lottery association is the representative for state-operated gaming and lotteries in Europe. The group had recently created the European Reponsible Gaming Standard, a series of tests designed to explore operator efficiency and commitment to preventing problem gambling.
“This is once again major recognition of our responsible gambling work," said Meta Persdotter, CEO of Svenska Spel. “Last year, we received an award from the WLA, naming us as the world’s top gaming company in the field of responsible gambling. This EL accreditation further underpins our position."
Areas studied by European Lotteries included staff training, game structure, advertising and marketing, problem gambling information and treatment referral policies.
The lottery association used an independent auditor to grade and measure scores, ensuring objectivity. Ten companies as a whole were observed, including online gambling operators from Spain, Finland, Germany, Italy, and Austria.
