Online Sports Betting on Wimbledon Finds Roddick Major Underdog
Andy Roddick seems to have found the top of his tennis game, pushing past tension-filled moments and tough opponents to reach his first Wimbledon final since 2005. Unfortunately, the man waiting for him is Roger Federer, the huge sports betting favorite to win and his nemesis from his past excursions deep into the Wimbledon field.
Online casinos have Federer a nine-to-one favorite over Roddick. Examining the history and factors involved with each man reveals why.
Federer has a personal 18-2 edge in matches played against Roddick. That includes knocking Roddick out of the English tournament in the semis in 2003, and the finals in 2004 and 2005, all while the two were neck and neck for the number one ranking in the world.
Since then, Roddick's career has been a series of backsteps, injuries, questions of commitment, and coaching changes. Meanwhile, Federer has gone on to win fourteen Grand Slam tennis tournaments, arguably placing himself in position as the best tennis player ever.
Federer is now looking for his fifteenth Slam, and many think the absence of his own personal tormentor, Rafael Nadal, gives Federer a chance to add to his glory without a serious challenge. But there is a calm air about Roddick that has many who believed his best days were behind him once again giving him a chance.
"Andy's not the only player that has matchup problems against Roger. Everyone does, apart from Nadal," ESPN quoted their tennis analyst, Darren Cahill, as saying. "Andy's got to stay the course. He's got to keep telling himself he's playing better.''
Sunday morning comes the showdown, and Andy Roddick will march onto the grass court knowing one thing: he's the only player other than Federer who has a chance to win Wimbledon this year. For the new, centered Roddick, that's a start.
