US Mac Users Left Out in Cold by Online Casinos

While Microsoft tries to push Macs as carrying a hidden cost, one area in which Windows reigns supreme that lies undiscussed is in running online casinos and Internet gambling sites.

Microsoft has unveiled an aggressive advertising campaign to counterattack the success Apple has had with its Justin Long-John Hodges commercials. US patrons of online casinos and Internet gaming will find that only Windows works as an operating systen for running their favorite slots and games, while Mac users are shut out.

US players are limited to a handful of Internet casino software suppliers that will accept US play. Rival Gaming currently does not offer any Mac versions of its games. When customer support was contacted at Cocoa Casino, they said a Mac software casino was under discussion, but no decision had been made. Lion Casino simply said Rival does not have a version for Apple software.

Vegas Technology games will not run on Apple, either. Such Vegas Tech casinos as Golden Casino and Online Vegas either say straight out they do not have Mac versions, or simply ignore the existence of Apple, providing only Windows-compatible gaming.

Some Real Time Gaming casinos will run on Mac computers, but only in instant, non-download format, a much simpler and far less enjoyable experience. The true downloaded casinos still require Windows operating systems. This means Lucky 18 and Cherry Red need Microsoft systems and PCs to run properly.

Rome Casino runs on Top Game software. Customer service seemed a bit puzzled by the question, as if they were not aware any operating system other than Windows existed. Finally, the answer came down, that Windows is the system of choice for Rome.

Wizard Gaming tells players right on its system requirements that Windows is needed to operate the casino. This means All Star Slots is not playable on Apple computers.

While gaming systems may soon catch up with the burgeoning market that has switched to Macintosh products, for now, US online gambling players will have to be content using a PC when gaming. Maybe Macs aren't as cool as they want you to think they are.
