But Woods is still the man, in the eyes of both casual fans and serious sports bettors. Crowds followed Woods even through practice rounds on Tuesday, waiting to be witnesses to magic.
Woods will enter as the winner the last time the US Open was played at Bethpage Black, the last US Open, and the last event he entered before this weekend. No wonder he's almost expected to dominate the world's greatest group of golfers as if they are weekend hackers.
